Te Pou Taurahere - Carving Programme

Te Pou Taurahere is an inspiring initiative that will link and reconnect whānau/individuals to Te Ao Māori through dynamic pathways of inspirational learning.

Introduction to Te Ao Māori Carving Programmes

Rooted in the rich traditions of Te Ao Māori, our carving programmes offer a powerful journey of cultural reconnection, personal growth, and creative expression. Through the sacred practice of mahi whakairo (carving), participants are guided to explore their identity, values, and ancestral ties in a deeply meaningful and transformative way.

This carving programme has been specifically developed for schools as an innovative initiative designed to engage students who thrive through alternative learning pathways. It aims to inspire and empower tamariki by providing meaningful, hands-on experiences that can lead to transformative outcomes.

Through the programme, students are introduced to Te Ao Māori—reconnecting them with their heritage and identity through practices such as karakia, pūrākau, tikanga, kotahitanga, whakapono, and aroha.

Mahi Whao offers a powerful, mindful experience, allowing students to connect deeply with their inner selves and the presence of their tīpuna.
