A Day of Movement, Learning & Connection at Rauawaawa Kaumātua Charitable Trust
Event Date: 11/02/2025
At Healthy Families Te Ngira, we are proud to partner with Rauawaawa Kaumātua Charitable Trust, our key holder in promoting the well-being and leadership of our kaumatua As our elderly population continues to grow, it is essential that we empower our kaumatua to take active roles within their whānau, serving as champions of quality of life and cultural heritage.
Recently, we had the privilege of gaining insights from Pare Meha, our systems innovator, and the incredible team at Rauawaawa. Their dedication to enriching the lives of our kaumatua is truly inspiring. The kaimahi excel in fostering engagement and activity, encouraging our elders to participate in stretching, line dancing, and waiata, all of which enhance both physical and mental well-being.
In addition to these uplifting activities, the day served as a platform for vital discussions surrounding the Local Government (Water Services) Bill. Many kaumatua voiced their concerns and opposition to the bill during an open forum, highlighting its implications not just for themselves but for their wider whānau. We were pleased to facilitate support for making submissions, particularly for those who face barriers due to limited access to technology and resources.
Overall, the day was a vibrant mix of laughter, learning, and connection spent with our beloved koro and kuia, who continue to inspire us all. A heartfelt ngā mihi to everyone who contributed to making this day so special! Together, we will continue to build a supportive environment where our kaumatua can thrive and lead with dignity.
